This fabulous Louis XVI Period French Giltwood Barometer dates to circa 1780. The dial is signed “Carcany,” who was a Parisian barometer maker active under Louis XVI. Carcany’s signature fluer de lis serve as beautiful mark points around the dial. With the study of sciences blooming in the 1700s, barometers and thermometers hanging in a gentleman’s quarters were a sign of intelligence and sophistication.
